Alliander

Your Energy

As a Solution Architect in the ART SO, you contribute to the much-needed digital transformation of our energy system. You act at an overarching level in the Agile Release Train (ART). You ensure that development teams operate in accordance with the relevant parts of the Enterprise Architecture.

As you may have already noticed from these few sentences, we work within the digitalization organization Alliander according to the SAFe framework. Therefore, the role of the Solution Architect also involves making architecture choices, frameworks, and guidelines that enable a development team to realize a solution. During and after development, you collaborate with the teams and review the architecture. This includes proactive coordination with Product Owners, Product Managers, and Lead IT colleagues. Additionally, you regularly engage with Enterprise Architects and other Solution Architects to guide and validate your architecture choices. So, you are involved in aligning – together with Enterprise Architecture, setting up – establishing an architecture for your value chain, and supporting teams in making choices for implementing solutions.

Your Business Unit

You will be working within System Operations, where the most radical changes are currently taking place. System Operations also collaborates with other business units in a value chain. Together with your fellow solution architects, you ensure a solution that meets the rapidly changing environment in the energy landscape, both now and in the future. Collaboration with external organizations, such as the Linux Foundation Energy, is essential in this regard. Automating and digitalizing are necessary to anticipate these changes in a timely and adequate manner, and that’s where you play an important role.

You share your expertise with your colleagues within the System Operations department. On the work floor, you will find about 15 multidisciplinary teams of 7 to 10 people, all of whom are young at heart and ambitious. Thanks to the hard work, there is also room for humor and friendly encouragement. The teams are particularly close-knit due to their intensive collaboration. System Operations works in an Agile manner on the future energy supply. Therefore, System Operations is an indispensable part of Liander and continuously seeks new innovations that contribute to our services.

This is how you contribute to today’s and tomorrow’s energy:

  • You develop the architecture that facilitates the development of the ARTs and aligns with the Enterprise Architecture.
  • You explore alternatives for a Solution and further develop a proposed Solution to a level where choices can be made within the ART, so that teams are able to realize the intended solution. You facilitate decision-making, own the decision, and ensure adherence to the choices made.
  • You constantly consider the business value and ensure alignment with the Enterprise Architecture.
  • You initiate and participate in defining high-level functional and non-functional requirements.
  • You analyze technical trade-offs and determine the components and subsystems at a high level, as well as the interfaces between them.
  • You comply with security guidelines and other Alliander quality requirements (e.g., CI/CD, code quality, unit testing, documentation, etc.).
  • You work within an ART and are a regular sparring partner for the Product Manager and the Release Train Engineer. You also frequently collaborate with the Enterprise Architect.
  • Your Background

You are a driven architect and feel responsible for the outcome of the entire ART. You take care of elaborating, documenting, and communicating Solution Architectures. You are not hesitant to engage with various stakeholders and frequently act as a sparring partner for Product Owners and Technical Solution Leads regarding architecture. You are capable of making solution choices and guiding the value chain accordingly.

    You are someone who

  • Has a strong ability to relate technology, business, and information.
  • Possesses excellent communication skills to explain complex problems appropriately to different types of stakeholders with various interests.
  • Has extensive technical knowledge and/or experience in IT, including software development, build automation (CI/CD), and software architecture.
  • Has an up-to-date understanding of popular cloud software platforms for building software solutions and is familiar with one or more software frameworks.
  • Has an affinity for operational process and/or energy network automation.
  • Has experience in developing application and data architecture, including modeling and documentation (e.g., Archimate).
  • Has knowledge and experience with Agile work, particularly within the SAFe framework.
  • Holds certifications in Archimate and SAFe (preferred).
