Octagon Professionals is currently recruiting for a Cooling Design Consultant (High-Voltage Motor Core) to join a leading international industrial manufacturer.
Overview
In this role, you will provide senior-level expertise in cooling and fluid design, helping to improve thermal performance, reduce defect rates, and strengthen design reliability. You will support the transition from experience-based design toward a more analytical, data-driven framework for cooling system development.
As demand for higher efficiency and greater output in high-voltage three-phase induction motors continues to grow, improving cooling performance while reducing product weight has become a key competitive factor. Increasing output within the same frame size and enabling more compact designs requires more accurate temperature prediction and robust thermal design methodologies.
Role Responsibilities
• Act as a senior consultant for high-voltage motor cooling and fluid design, providing expert evaluation and improvement recommendations for existing models.
• Assess the thermal and fluid performance of motor cooling systems, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce weight, and enhance reliability.
• Diagnose root causes of internal defects, field issues, and quality concerns related to temperature performance, proposing effective thermal and fluid design solutions.
• Provide expert guidance on IC 611 and IC 81W cooling systems, supporting optimised cooling performance and stable operation.
• Support the development of improved temperature prediction methodologies to increase design-stage accuracy and reduce reliance on conservative assumptions.
• Establish cooling design standards and develop formal engineering guidelines for high-voltage motor applications.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to implement best practices in cooling design, balancing performance, manufacturability, and cost.
• Deliver clear technical reports, recommendations, and advisory support to stakeholders.
Essential Skills and Experience
• Minimum of 10 years of practical experience in cooling and fluid design for high-voltage motors, or equivalent senior-level technical leadership experience.
• Extensive expertise in IC 611 and IC 81W cooling systems.
• Strong understanding of ther mal performance analysis and temperature prediction methods in rotating electrical machines.
• Proven ability to identify thermal design issues and implement practical performance improvements.
• Experience defining design standards and translating technical expertise into structured engineering guidelines.
• Excellent communication skills in English, with the ability to lead technical discussions and advisory activities in an international environment.
Desirable Skills and Experience
• Experience working with or alongside leading global motor manufacturers
• Experience improving the design and performance of IC 01 and IC 411 cooling systems.
• Hands-on experience with CFD analysis and interpretation for motor cooling applications.
• Familiarity with advanced thermal simulation and data-driven optimisation approaches.
Package
• High-impact consulting assignment with a global industrial manufacturer
• Flexible engagement structure aligned with seniority and availability
• Competitive consulting fee
• International collaboration with engineering teams and stakeholders
